Our History

Heritage Baptist Church was founded in 2008. 54 faithful people stepped out on faith. They called their first Pastor, Brent Davis, who prayerfully accepted. Over the next 11 years while following Jesus and leading the congregation; Dr. Brent Davis and Heritage Baptist Church saw over 850 Baptisms, countless salvations, a congregation that had grown to over 900 people, dozens of men called to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a true new testament church.
Dr. Davis, or better known as “Pastor Brent”, embodied that which any pastor should strive to be. He truly loved the people, he loved the church, he loved his family, but above all he loved Jesus. Pastor Brent became a voice of reason throughout Calhoun and all of Gordon county. Many people sought guidance and advice from him. He was always very quick to listen, as well as respond with Love and compassion, all while standing firm on the word of God. He preached sin was sin, Heaven was real, and so is hell. His life’s desire was very much summed up in 2 Peter 3:9 

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Pastor Brent truly desired that each person would respond to the gospel and come to repentance. If you were ever in service at Heritage Baptist Church, you certainly heard the way to salvation. Pastor Brent without hesitation, taught Jesus is the only way.
I believe Pastor Brent was a vital tool for the Lord in getting Heritage Baptist headed in the direction God wanted. We don’t worship, serve, or praise Pastor Brent; but we do thank him and love him for his obedience. On July 26th, 2019, Pastor Brent left us for his eternal home in glory with the Lord. Since his passing, Heritage Baptist has remained steadfast in seeking the face of the Lord. In the remainder of the year the church saw 158 baptisms along with many more salvations. God has truly blessed Heritage. God continues to use his people to do amazing things. Lives continue to be radically changed, all for the glory of God.
So, we welcome you to Heritage Baptist church, and we are thrilled for you to learn a little bit about our history. I think its important for those who may be new here to know about a man who put his life into this building in which you sit. A man who gave himself to the work of the Lord. No, Pastor Brent was not perfect as none of us are, but I’m inclined to believe that if we took God as serious as Pastor Brent did, there is no telling what God can and will continue to do here. We are moving forward, but there is nothing wrong remembering those who have helped us along our way.
As your current Pastor, I for one, will be forever grateful for my friend Brent Davis, and like many of you, he saw something in me that I did not see in myself. I thank him for never bending on God’s word, no matter how unpopular it became. I know that no man should be lifted up, and I’m not doing that. I thank God for allowing me to have the friend and Pastor I had in Brent Davis, as I’m sure many of you do as well. So, we will plow faithfully forward, continuing to seek God’s face, while proclaiming his word to a lost and dying world. Thank you for reading this and we hope you can sense the Love we have for the Lord, his church and each other as we fondly remember our Heritage Baptist Church trail blazer and founding Pastor, Dr. Brent Davis.
